A photogenic Half Term

I absolutely love exploring the great outdoors with my children. I also love photography, and combining these is one of my favourite things to do. We are really blessed with no shortage of breathtaking places to visit here in Swansea.

When photographing my own children I will always go for a candid capture over a posed one, and I think if you hang back and just observe your children enjoying nature the perfect photo opportunities will prevent themselves, with no need for forced smiles or negotiations.

Here are some of our favourite half term activities that will help you to easily capture some beautiful, natural photographs of your family and create some priceless memories too.

Rhossili

The National Trust

I’ve often heard people say they aren't members as they don't think there is much to do here in South Wales. That’s simply not true. You can park at both Pennard and Rhossili for free, so straight off you have 2 areas of outstanding natural beauty to go have an adventure with your family and get some amazing coastal backdrops for your photos. Another favourite is Dinefwr in Llandeilo. There’s an amazing old manor house, a deer park and a castle. Instagram worthy moments a plenty. We also love combining a trip to Cardiff with a short drive down the road to Dyffryn Gardens. Another stunning day out.

Dyffryn Gardens

The National Botanic Garden of Wales

If you're a keen photographer you will be spoilt for choice of beautiful things to photograph here, and you’ll be sure to get some amazing captures of your children enjoying meeting the butterflies, exploring in the great glass house and having the best time in the amazing play area. The Botanic Gardens

Arthur’s Stone

If you haven't ventured out to this historical site on Cefn Bryn nows your chance. Tell your children the history of the place and get them to dress up as knights ready to slay dragons and you will capture some precious moments that will have you the envy of all your Facebook friends.

Castles

And if you enjoy history then a trip to a castle is always a great day out and Wales has more castles than any other country in Europe so there's no shortage to choose from, and they are always fun places to photograph. You can read about some of our favourites here.

Llansteffan Castle

The Beach

No half term in Swansea is complete without exploring the stunning Gower coastline. Make the most of those early winter sunsets and get some gorgeous photos at the same time. Take a flask of hot chocolate and a blanket to keep warm. It’ll look great in your photos.

Horton

Whatever you do, remember that it isn't actually about getting that perfect photo, it’s about family time, and making memories and I hope this blog will inspire you to get outside with your family this half term. I know you won’t regret it.
